Cost-cutting translations are introducing errors and putting refugees at risk
This investigation focused on the use of AI translation by humanitarian aid organizations and federal immigration agencies. We documented at least one case of a rejected asylum claim due to errors introduced into an application by machine translation, and exposed chronic problems with AI translations of Pashto and Dari during the ongoing Afghan refugee crisis.
