Cost-cutting translations are introducing errors and putting refugees at risk

This investigation focused on the use of machine translation by humanitarian aid organizations and federal immigration agencies. We documented at least one case of a rejected asylum claim due to errors introduced into an application by machine translation, and exposed chronic problems with translations of Pashto and Dari during the ongoing Afghan refugee crisis.

PBS Newshour did a segment on my reporting, in which I appeared to discuss the use of machine translation in U.S. asylum court.
